Fez is divided into 3 zones, Fez el Bali (Old Fez, includes the medina), Fez El Jdid (‘New Fez’, established in 1276 and includes the Mellah) and the modern Ville Nouvelle (the New Town, established in 1916). You can easily walk between the medina and Fez El Jdid but getting to Ville Nouvelle will involve a taxi ride. The Algila Fez is in Old Fez.
